What is a MIAM?

MIAM stands for Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting. This is an individual meeting with a mediator to help you to discuss your options and find out how mediation can help you.

This meeting is required by the family courts in most cases before an application can be made. During this meeting the mediator will assess the suitability of mediation and provide you with a certificate if required.

How does it work?

What happens at a MIAM and after?

In a MIAM you will have the opportunity to tell the mediator about your situation and the issues that need to be agreed upon, the mediator will also explain the mediation process to you.

What happens after the MIAM?

At the end of the meeting, the mediator will tell you whether your case is suitable for mediation, and you can decide whether you want to proceed with mediation or explore another option for resolving your issues.
